Henry Leck, David Flood, David Searles -
Decades of Friendship
Founder and President - David T. Searles, BM & MM in Vocal Performance, Indiana University School of Music, Artist Diploma in Vocal Performance, Royal Academy of Music, London
In 1972, David Searles left a university teaching position in the United States (voice, choral, music theory, conducting, orchestration) to join the ancient musical foundation of Canterbury Cathedral with the medieval title of Lay Clerk (professional singer) at the invitation of Dr. Allan Wicks. Thus began his forty-year plus association with Canterbury Cathedral. Upon returning to the United States, he was appointed Artistic Director of the St. Petersburg Boychoir, becoming one of the first full-time community children's choir directors in the US. A further university professorship followed at the University of Indianapolis (voice, choral, song literature, opera workshop, vocal pedagogy) at which time he met his wife of forty years, Sharon Beckendorf Searles, Professor of Voice at Butler University in Indianapolis for twenty-seven years, now Professor Emeritus, and long-time colleague of Henry Leck. For seven years, Mr. Searles was full-time Minister of Music (150 voice choir, largest organ in Indiana) at East 91st Street Christian Church during which time he conducted this choir in concerts throughout Europe including a full week of services at Canterbury Cathedral when the Canterbury Cathedral Choir of Men and Boys was on holiday. The accompanist for that week in August of 1984 was then sub-organist, David Flood! After the retirement of Dr. Allan Wicks in 1988, David Flood, then Master of the Choristers at Lincoln Cathedral, was named to succeed Dr. Wicks as Organist and Master of the Choristers at Canterbury Cathedral.

After years of requests from various choral colleagues around the US to help in arranging their tours to Europe, Mr. Searlesfounded one of the first companies that specialized in custom concert tours to Europe for America's top choral organizations. One such tour in 1995 was for Henry Leck's Indianapolis Children's Choir. Mr. Searles personally escorted Mr. Leck's choir to Canterbury that year to work with David Flood and to sing the ancient service of Evensong which has been sung daily in the cathedral for 1,400 years. Thus began the many years of friendship and collaboration between David Searles, Henry Leck and David Flood.
In 2001, David Searles sold the company that he founded that had grown to be one of the top concert tour companies in the United States operating over fifty choir tours to Europe each year plus operating four European choral festivals and retired to Florida and Vermont. However, in 2009, the organization that purchased the company in 2001 went out-of-business, so Mr. Searles came out of retirement to form Euro Arts Tours Inc. for one purpose: to re-organize the International Children's Choir Festival which began again in 2011 with Mr. Leck and Dr. David Flood.
Euro Arts Tours is not a travel agency and only organizes and executes the International Children's Choir Festival and the Aloha Children's Choir Festival. No middlemen or incoming travel companies are used and all arrangements are handled directly with the suppliers in England and Hawaii thereby assuring complete control of the artistic and cultural experience for your children and their parents.
